Confession: I don't like marking
Marking is my life lately.
Report cards are due in a little under a month and so I've been making sure I have marks and everything for those.
This week I also took my students to the zoo. We did some geocaching and some animal watching... the day started of cloudy and rainy but by the time we arrived at the zoo it was only lightly raining (and still cloudy). Luckily, I had an umbrella so it didn't bother me! It didn't seem to bother my students either and a fine time was had by all.
We were extra lucky and the polar bears were swimming when we were in the tunnel. We stayed down here a looong time and took "selfies" with them. The girls insisted on taking my picture with them and this is what we ended up with. Thanks for counting down and letting me know when you were taking it girls....
I haven't decided if the price tag for the admission to the zoo is worth it. We were lucky to see the polar bears AND not have it be too crowded. I imagine if the day had been nicer we would have been pushing past people to see things.
This weekend John was gone so that left me to do... MORE MARKING!
I also went to my friend Kilian's for his baptism. Which, for those of you that don't know, is a public declaration that he believes in God. We all sin and fall short of the glory of God and being baptized doesn't grant you automatic entrance to heaven but once everyone knows you are a Christian they can help you on your journey, hold you accountable, and be there for you. Plus it shows everyone that you are saying so long to your old life and entering a new life with The Lord at your side.
Kilian lives out in the country and a river runs right by his property so he decided to have our life group leader, Mike, baptize him in the river. It wasn't the warmest of days but the sun was shining down on all of us during it!
Today, after church, I went shopping for some plants for my balcony. I already had the shrubs in the large white containers and some calla lilly bulbs for the smaller white ones.
I also moved things around on there... I'll see how much more I like this set up
**I do have cushions for the chairs... I just keep them put away when I'm not using them**
Last year I bought some lemongrass at Superstore (because you can't buy it at just any grocery store) because it is rumored to keep the mosquitos away. Anyone who has spent anytime in this glorious province of ours knows that keeping the mosquitos away is hard work.
ANYWHO, last year I maybe saw 4 mosquitos on my balcony. Now, that could be because I am on the 2nd story... but I'm not willing to risk not having lemongrass this year and being attacked by those pesky things.
The lemongrass didn't make the picture... it's growing roots in a glass inside.
PS. If you want to try the lemongrass it is super inexpensive (although I don't have a huge backyard to keep them out of) under $1 for 2 things of it (I got 4).
Here we have my little vegetable "garden"
Last year I managed to grow one whole tomato on my tomato plant. It was enough for one sandwich. I'm aiming to double the amount of tomatoes this year (so far I only have one plant)!
The other plant is a green pepper plant (I think).
Here's the thing.. the container was in an area of all red pepper plants and facing the wrong way. I didn't see small green pepper plants anywhere else in the garden center. There is a chance that some sneaky person switched the tickets on it and red peppers will grow on it... There is a chance some other random fruit or vegetable will also grow on it. I'm sure I'll still be happy with red peppers... I'm not sure about anything else.
I couldn't remember the size of my extra planter from last year so I bought 2 new ones... that in this picture look really small... I don't think they are that small though... maybe they are? My tomato plant will go in the blue one... It needs to if I'm expecting 2 tomatoes to come from it! I've heard that peppers don't need a lot of room to grow so I'm hoping they will be fine in one of the smaller planters (that I need to put some rocks in the bottom of first)... but now that I think of it I'm not sure how peppers grow. If they grow upwards like a tomato plant I should be fine but if they sprawl out I'll likely be in trouble.
Oh, and I also bought some flowers because, why not?
I was thinking of my cousin Shelley when I bought them because one is very pink and very her I feel.
And now, my soup is simmering on the stove.
Why soup?
I thought John might just come back from the lake early and eat dinner with me (on Sunday's we eat dinner together) but alas, it doesn't appear to be the case. Perhaps the worst part of all of this is that I don't even like this soup (it was frozen from a while ago) and I was hoping he would be back to have a bowl of it so that I don't have to feel guilty when I don't want to eat all of it.
